12 BOOK “Untamed” (2021)

January 22, 2024

Glennon Doyle (United States, 1976)

I have to tell you that, at first, I set this book aside for a while 🫣. I started it, but it didn’t grab me; I began to clash with it and put it on pause until I decided to finish all the books I had started and never completed. So, in the end, I gathered my courage and gave it another shot 🙌🏽. I ventured back in because this book had been recommended to me many times, and I was curious to understand why it had so much hype. And, believe me, it was worth giving it a second chance.

✍🏽”Untamed” is one of those books that inspires you to live your life as authentically as possible. The main idea is: Who were you before the world told you who you should be?

“At the age of thirty-nine, married to the father of her three children, Glennon Doyle fell in love with a woman. That day marked the beginning of her adventure to listen to her voice again, the same voice that decades of cultural imperatives, social conditioning, and numbing addictions had silenced. And she vowed never to abandon herself again.”

In 324 pages, Glennon Doyle shares her version of what she has experienced, and although the journey has not been easy (like that of all humans), it is an exciting path towards the fullness of her being. Each chapter reflects on various topics ranging from beauty stereotypes, sexuality, motherhood, mental health, and racism to the electronic devices that have taken over our daily lives. I hope we all have the right and the courage to be who we really are without hiding or fearing judgment or rejection. Today, I have a little more hope, as in some parts of the world, things are beginning to change, and we can love whoever we want and assert our right to be whatever we please.

Words I’ll keep:

“To be brave is to live from what comes from within. Being brave means looking inward in any moment of uncertainty, feeling out the Knowing and speaking it out loud.”

Thanks for reading me.

Have a beautiful day!😘
