22 THE BEAUTY OF THIS LIFE: Our Book Club

January 22, 2024

Our book club was formed several years ago in Ireland, specifically at the Cervantes Institute in Dublin. This experience became my way of staying connected with my mother tongue. I will never forget the admiration I felt when I met the wonderful reading companions, Irish women who speak exceptional Spanish and possess extraordinary souls. That first encounter with them left an indelible mark on my memory; moreover, it amazed me that they not only spoke Spanish but continued to learn with an enthusiasm that many would envy.

❤️These women have beautifully marked my life. They are a gift of immense value and an endless source of inspiration. I must confess that, over time, it has become more challenging for me to admire other people, but with them, the admiration remains intact. There will be a post to share everything I have learned from these valuable friends.

Our meetings started as in-person gatherings and became my favourite moments of the month. However, with the arrival of the pandemic, the club had to stop temporarily. Fortunately, we resumed our activities virtually, and new members joined us. During a complicated period in my life, my loved one and I distanced ourselves a bit from the book club. However, fate played a good hand, and we reconnected with our dear friends. They informed us they were organising their Zoom book club and invited us to join. Since that day, I have not missed a meeting (my loved one sometimes misses due to work commitments). For me, attending our monthly gatherings has become a priority as they enrich my life in a significant way.

Every month, we explore a new book. Everyone has the opportunity to suggest titles that interest us, allowing us to delve into readings that we might not have chosen otherwise or that we were completely unaware of. What I value most about our club is the honesty with which we share our opinions about the books, whether we like them or not. But above all, I love hearing others’ perspectives on the same literary work. This has led to incredibly interesting reflections that, had we not shared this experience, I probably would never have experienced.

Nowadays, there are plenty of book clubs, and that makes me happy. I believe it’s an activity that enriches our experience as humans. Now more than ever, collective reflection is necessary — listening to each other, challenging our ideas, but above all, respecting our individuality to achieve a better community.

Thanks for reading.

Have a wonderfully lovely day, and may you find a book club that embraces you! 😘
